THE NLS ADR National Essay Competition (By February 15,2014)

The following is the mail sent by the organisers of the NLS ADR Essay Writing Competition.


We write to you on behalf of the ADR Board at the National Law School of India University, India’s premier legal education institution. The NLS ADR Board is entrusted with the responsibility of encouraging academic research and interest in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
In furtherance of this mandate, the ADR Board is pleased to announce THE NLS ADR National Essay Competition, open to all full-time students of law, including both undergraduate and post-graduate students. Please note that this competition is not open to the current students of NLS.

The Board shall award a cash prize of ₹10,000/- to the Best Essay AND publish the winning entry in a forthcoming issue of India Law Journal, our Publication Partner for this competition. The winner shall also receive a hard copy of the issue in which the essay is published. 

The basic guidelines for submission are as follows: 

Participants are encouraged to write on one of the two broad themes for the Competition: 
I. “ADR and Game Theory”
II. “ADR and the Criminal Justice System”

  • The total word-count must not exceed 4000 words, including end-notes.
  • Footnotes are not allowed.
  • Participants are required to follow the Chicago style of citation.
  • Please note that only original submissions are invited, and any instance of plagiarism will lead to immediate disqualification.
  • Please do not submit entries that have been published elsewhere.
  • Co-authorship is allowed.

The essays must be sent in either “.doc” or “.docx” format. 

Participants are required to submit the following details in a separate Word document along with their entry:

Contact details (including phone number and email address):
Please paste a scanned image of your College ID card in this document.

The entries (along with the contact details document) must be mailed to by 11:59 PM on 15th February, 2014. 

We hope to receive many entries from your institution. Please feel free to send an email to the Board in case you wish to seek any clarification. We also request you to forward this email (and the attached competition poster) to all the students and colleagues in your institution.
